1. Matima Miller.
One of the top tiktokers who died in their 20s is Matima Miller. Also known as Swavy, belonged to this group of creators and as a result, had more than 520,000 Instagram followers and 3.7 million TikTok followers. According to the New York Post, the budding celebrity unfortunately died in July 2021 after suffering a gunshot wound. Miller was allegedly “gunned down in broad daylight” while visiting Wilmington, Delaware. The crime was being investigated at the time, but Miller had been named as the victim, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Miller’s admirers and friends both paid tribute to him on social media, with YouTuber Damaury “Kid Maury” Mikula producing a dynamic video about the budding star who passed away far too soon. “He got shot,” Mikula added, wiping away his tears. “All he did was make videos — vids, vids, vids, vids, going up, up, up, up.” Other fans expressed their sorrow about the creator’s passing on Twitter, one of whom wrote, “I know [you] changed [people’s] lives by making them smile and I’m sorry this happened.”
2. Xiao Qiumei.
Social media creators who use TikTok as their main avenue for distribution have died in freak incidents and senselessly in other cases. Some people have even risked their lives to create material. One such TikTok celebrity was the 23-year-old Chinese creator Xiao Qiumei, who died after falling to her death while attempting to record a video for her 100,000 followers. The New York Post reported that Qiumei was the second Chinese TikTok star to perish while attempting to record content.
In the footage, crane operator Qiumei can be seen chatting to her camera while seated in the crane’s cabin, but the image suddenly blurs as machinery quickly moves in and out of frame. Mei died after falling 160 feet from the crane’s cabin, and witnesses even claimed to have seen her with her phone still in her hand. According to the New York Post, Qiumei’s social media gained a lot of attention because she didn’t seem like the conventional person to hold her line of work. Mei allegedly had two kids.
3. Augusta Osedion
Another of the Top tiktokers who died in their 20s is Augusta Osedion, a 21 years student at Lead University in Ibadan, Oyo State, who was purportedly assassinated in July at Oral Estate in Ajah, Lagos State, by Benjamin Best, also known as Killaboi, who had been her lover for three years.
Benjamin is said to have fatally stabbed Augusta during a heated dispute between them. It was found that on July 11, 2023, Augusta called her mother, Onwabhagbe Cordelia, to report a fight between her and her lover. Austa and her lover were unable to come to an understanding despite Cordelia’s attempts.
4. Anthony Barajas
One shocking death among the Top tiktokers who died in their 20s is Anthony Barajas. It’s reasonable to say that the Anthony Barajas shooting and death at “The Forever Purge” movie screening stunned the TikTok community. Anthony Barajas was a popular TikTok celebrity with almost 1 million followers. According to BuzzFeed News, Barajas and friend Rylee Goodrich were watching the movie when Joseph Jimenez, a 20-year-old guy, arrived and shot them both. Goodrich was 18 and Barajas was 19, respectively. Goodrich succumbed to her wounds at the scene, while Barajas passed away in the hospital.
To assist the family of Barajas with the cost of medical bills and other expenditures, a GoFundMe page was created. He was referred to as an “amazing brother, son, and friend” on the website. It continued, “Anthony was the light of so many [people’s] lives and there are tough times ahead, but we have amazing family and friends to get through this.”
5. Alexis Sharkey
Alexis Sharkey is another among the top tiktokers who died in their 20s. The connections it fosters are a feature of social media that many of us find appealing. We get quite invested in the lives of the creators when they invite us in. One such maker was Alexis Sharkey, a 26-year-old who used TikTok and other social media sites to post information from her travels and everyday events. Sharkey had 87,000 Instagram followers, 84,000 TikTok followers, and 1.3 million likes. Sadly, Sharkey’s body was discovered on November 28, 2020, in some undergrowth by the side of the road in Houston, Texas. Her murder, which was determined to be a strangulation, has never been solved.
