HISTORY
Winfrey was hired by Dennis Swanson, the new general manager of WLS-TV, in 1983 to take over for Robb Weller as the host of that program. On January 2, 1984, Winfrey took over as host. Within a month, she had moved the show from last to first in the local Chicago ratings. The local A.M. Chicago program changed its name to The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1985.
