Top 10 black American comedians; from Kevin hart to Jamie, Chris, and so many others, there are so many successful black comedians.
So many of these rib crackers started way back when and are still doing amazingly well in the comedy world.

1. Chris Rock
Chris Rock is not only one of the greatest Black comedians of all time, but he also has a chance to be the greatest comic of all time. For more than 30 years, Chris Rock has been performing.
What began as a career in stand-up comedy has evolved into global popularity. Today, Chris Rock is recognized as a popular movie star and producer. Chris Rock has even been on Broadway in The Motherf****r with the Hat as a cast member.
Chris is renowned for his unrestrained approach to humor and his ability to make people laugh at anything. One aspect of his versatility that has contributed to his enormous appeal is that he can do anything.
2. Kevin Hart
Things weren’t smooth sailing for Kevin Hart when he first started performing stand-up. He was often booed off stage in the beginning, and many people undoubtedly didn’t think he would ever amount to anything in terms of humor.
But Kevin was able to disprove everyone with his diligence and determination. He continued to be committed to his trade and finally began to amass a devoted following. Like many of the other people on this list, Kevin’s accomplishments in stand-up eventually led
to opportunities in the acting industry.
Kevin has starred in more than a dozen films over the years and has had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
3. Dave Chapelle
Dave Chappelle is widely regarded as one of the greatest stand-up comedians of his generation. Born on August 24, 1973, in Washington, D.C., Chappelle rose to prominence through his unique and thought-provoking comedic style that blends sharp social commentary with humor. Dave Chappelle gained widespread fame with his groundbreaking sketch comedy show, “Chappelle’s Show,” which aired on Comedy Central. The show, known for its satirical take on race, culture, and social issues, became a cultural phenomenon. Memorable sketches like “The Racial Draft,” “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories,” and “Wayne Brady” showcased Chappelle’s irreverent and thought-provoking comedic perspective.
4. Cedric The entertainer
Cedric the Entertainer, one of the Original Kings of Comedy, has unquestionably proven himself in the business and is among our Top 10 Black American Comedians.
Cedric has always been well-liked in the Black community, despite not achieving as much
mainstream success as some other Black comedians.
He entered the field of TV hosting most recently as the host of The Greatest #AtHome Videos. In 2021, he served as host of the Primetime Emmys.
5. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg has established herself as the type of comedian who can accomplish anything over the years.
Whoopi is the exact definition of a celebrity, having done everything from stand-up to acting to hosting. Having stated that, your experience with her will mostly depend on your age.
6. Tiffany Haddish
Between her early stints as a guest star on television shows, her rise to fame as Nekeisha Williams on the sitcom The Carmichael Show, and her breakout performance as Dina in the film Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish has had a successful career in comedy.
She published a novel titled The Last Black Unicorn and voiced funny characters in the formerly Netflix, now Adult Swim series Tuca & Bertie hosted an incredible SNL episode and received a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2021 for her comedy album Black Mitzvah, and more.
7. Leslie Jones
Leslie Jones is another Black comedian with a successful career. From her years as a cast member and writer on SNL to her 2010 Showtime comedy special Problem Child, Jones is unquestionably funny.
Jones’s work on Saturday Night Live earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination. She has also had success in the film industry, making appearances in Chris Rock’s Top Five and the 2021 Coming 2 America with Eddie murphy.
8. Robin Thede
During her tenure on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, improv and sketch show comedian Robin Thede became the first African-American woman to serve as the head writer for a late-night talk show.
Thede is most known for her work as a writer and co-star on A Black Lady Sketch Show as well as her BET program, The Rundown With Robin Thede, where she provides political and pop cultural analysis.
Thede was the only woman of color hosting a late-night talk show during her tenure on the latter. Both crowds and critics gave the show very positive reviews.
9. Steve Harvey
There may be some people out there who have forgotten that Steve Harvey began his career as a stand-up comedian because of all the things he has accomplished over the years.
Steve Harvey actually played a character in the 2000 comedy The Original Kings of Comedy. The movie’s success made way for other possibilities. The Steve Harvey Show, Steve’s own sitcom, debuted in 1996.
The show ran from 1997 through 2002. Steve Harvey is a well-known comedian and actor in addition to being a successful TV host.
Since 2010, he has presided over Family Feud, in addition to a number of other occasions.
10. The Wayans Family
We’ve chosen to include the Wayans family as a whole because there are various members of the family who merit a spot on this list.
As performers and comedians, Keenan Ivory, Kim, Marlon, Damon, and Shawn have all achieved great success.
The Wayans have entertained audiences as a group and as individuals for decades, and they still have plenty more to offer.
