HISTORY
The Daily Show, developed by Lizz Winstead and Madeleine Smithberg, made its Comedy Central debut on July 22, 1996. It was promoted as a substitute for Politically Incorrect, a popular Comedy Central program that had earlier that year relocated to ABC. The Daily Show’s co-creator and former executive producer was Madeleine Smithberg. She was an executive producer for Steve Harvey’s Big Time and a talent coordinator for Late Night with David Letterman. She graduated from Binghamton University.
On January 11, 1999, comedian Jon Stewart took over as host of the program, which was then renamed The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Short Attention Span Theater on Comedy Central, You Wrote It, You Watch It and The Jon Stewart Show on MTV, as well as a syndicated late-night talk show, were all hosted by Stewart in the past. He also appeared in movies and on television. Stewart initially kept a lot of the same personnel and on-air talent when he took over hosting from Kilborn, making the changeover for many parts seamless.
Stewart announced that he would be departing the program later in the year on February 10. The Daily Show will continue without Stewart, Comedy Central said in a statement, adding that it will “endure for years to come.”

Trevor Noah would take over as host of The Daily Show in place of Stewart, it was revealed on March 30, 2015. Soon after he announced, it came to light that Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Amy Poehler, and Amy Schumer were all candidates. On September 28, 2015, the comedian Kevin Hart appeared on his first program.
The Daily Show hired a succession of guest hosts beginning in January 2023, each of whom hosted four episodes after Trevor Noah left the show at the end of 2022. As of February 2023, a permanent replacement is not anticipated to begin until well into the second half of the year.

ABOUT THE HOST
South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and former television anchor Trevor Noah was born on February 20, 1984. From 2015 to 2022, he served as the host of Comedy Central’s American late-night talk show and satirical news program The Daily Show. From 11 nominations, Noah received 1 award, including a Primetime Emmy.
The Hollywood Reporter listed him as one of “The 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media” in both 2017 and 2018. Time magazine listed him among the top 100 most influential persons in the world in 2018. He received the Erasmus Prize in 2023.
Noah joined The Daily Show in 2014 as the Senior International Correspondent, and he succeeded Jon Stewart as host in 2015. Born a Crime, his humorous autobiography was released in 2016. He also hosted the 2022 White House Correspondents Dinner in addition to the 63rd, 64th, 65th, and 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
Noah joined The Daily Show as a regular contributor in December 2014. Comedy Central announced in March 2015 that Noah would take over for Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show, and his term began on September 28, 2015.
