Many celebrities, whether they be rappers, singers, actors from TV or film, or reality TV personalities, have had legal run-ins that have resulted in jail time. They have committed a wide range of crimes. Numerous celebrities faced legal repercussions for a range of tax offenses, including fraud and evasion.
Actor Wesley Snipes and singer Lauryn Hill have already served jail time, while reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley are due to enter prison early this year for infractions relating to taxes. 1. Bill Cosby
Emmy-winning comedian Bill Cosby, an African-American trailblazer known as “America’s Dad” on his hit TV show “The Bill Cosby Show,” was among the first celebrities to be found guilty of sexual assault during the #MeToo movement. He was given a maximum 10-year sentence in state prison after being found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault in April 2018. On June 30, 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed his conviction and ordered his immediate release from prison after finding that he had not been granted the right to remain silent about his past crimes.
2. 6ix9ine
Rapper 6ix9ine, real name Daniel Hernandez, had a platinum-selling debut album. He entered a guilty plea to nine charges in February 2019, including armed robbery and conspiracy to commit murder for giving the order to shoot fellow rapper Chief Keef. After being freed from federal prison in April 2020, 6ix9ine was placed under home arrest for the remainder of his sentence.
3. Danny Trejo
Viewers of TV and film are familiar with the actor, who is muscular and has tattoos, from his roles as a frequently frightening figure in shows like “Desperado,” “Heat,” “Con Air,” “Breaking Bad,” “Spy Kids,” and “Sons of Anarchy.” Trejo spent 11 years in several institutions, including San Quentin, for offenses related to drug use, assault, and armed robbery. After spending time in jail, he changed his ways, graduated to become a drug counselor, and began working as an extra in movies that helped begin his career.
4. Abby Lee Miller
Abby Lee Miller rose to fame as the determined owner of a dancing company featured on the reality TV series “Dance Moms.” She was charged in October 2015 with bankruptcy fraud for concealing her assets and customs fraud for failing to declare $120,000 in cash when she returned to the United States from an Australia masterclass tour. She entered a guilty plea to bankruptcy fraud the following June, and in May of 2017, she was given a year and a day’s imprisonment. After a year, Miller was set free.
5. Allison Mack
Known for her performances in the television series “Smallville” and “Wilfred,” Allison Mack was embroiled in one of the more bizarre celebrity-related criminal events. Mack belonged to a marketing firm named NXIVM, which advertised itself as providing seminars for professional growth. It was actually a cover for a gang involved in sex trafficking. Mack and many others were charged with federal sex trafficking and racketeering in 2018. In June 2021, she entered a guilty plea and received a three-year jail sentence.
6. Amy Locane
Amy Locane is well-known for her roles in the television series Melrose Place and the films Cry-Baby and School Ties. She gained notoriety in June 2010 when, while speeding on a New Jersey residential street, she collided with another car, killing the occupant. Her blood alcohol content was about three times the permitted amount.
Following her conviction in November 2012 for vehicular homicide and assault by vehicle, Locane was sentenced to three years in state prison in February of that same year. June 2015 saw her parole release. After prosecutors protested that the first court in Locane’s case had not followed minimum sentencing guidelines, the original judge resentenced Locane to an extra eight years in state prison in September 2020.
7. DMX
Rapper DMX, also known as Earl Simmons, thought he had been arrested at least thirty times before he passed away from a drug overdose in 2021. Theft, robbery, possession of weapons, drug possession, cruelty to animals, careless and unlicensed driving, and parole violations were among the allegations. He was accused of 14 charges of tax fraud in July 2017. He was given a one-year prison sentence in March 2018 and was freed ten months later.
